Exploring things is fun. Two days ago, I was in a meetup with friends Wayne Key, Katie Raver, and new friend Mary Charron. We were discussing ways of improving our respective meetups. Wayne does a thing on 7 habits, Katie is a meetup organizer expert, Mary makes her own wine with someone else’s grapes, and I…what in the hell is it that I do again?
When the meeting was over, Katie, Wayne and I discussed ways that we’d like to monetize make some money based on the many experiences, education, interests that we mutually share. We decided that I (who loves to teach) would present a 2 hour session on Gmail and that we would charge for it. In the 18 years that I’ve been doing meetups (or their equivalents), I haven’t charged a dime for it. So, on June 21st, I’ll be presenting a for-a-fee Gmail/Google thingee in Katie’s auditorium (aka her living room) to a small, select group.
So, what the hell does this have to do with Tai Chi? If you know me, you know that I’m good at non-sequiturs. What I’m talking about just has to remind ME of something and not necessarily ring a bell with my audience. Ah, the fun of Old Timer’s Disease.
Well, I’ll be using tai chi to get me in shape for my next career. I am badly in need of a sound mind and body and it feels to me like tai chi and alternating days of moderately aerobic activity will make be a better animal. Where does the tai chi come from? Why, from my meetup friend, Wayne Key, long time martial arts expert and newly found (year or so) friend who mistakenly asked me about WordPress one day and hasn’t been able to shut me up since.
And the meetup stuff is fueled by the enthusiasm of Katie Raver who never met a meetup she didn’t like. With these two catalytic forces in my life, how can I fail?
Tomorrow is my first day to explore solo tai chi and I’m already anticipating several exhilarating minutes of:
- Rain Comes Down breathing
- Cloud Hands set
- Body Shifting set
- Tai Chi walking
- Close out with Rain Comes Down breathing
Hey, what’s happening to me? I feel strange. I feel movement in my body. What the…? Oh. That’s my blood flowing again. Haven’t experienced THAT in a long time. I feel compelled to do some more tai chi right now. No, must control myself. All things in moderation…hmmm, except Warcraft and more Warcraft that is.
FOR THE WIN!!!
